BOOOOOOOO...

Hey Fam!

It was so nice to see most of you this past month for our wedding/reception! You are all very generous and pretty much the most awesome people ever!  :)

I have a little prayer request for you...

Jared woke up Sunday morning with the beginning of numbness on the right side of his face. All day Sunday it just got worse and worse. My dad did an unofficial diagnosis of Bell's Palsy, which was confirmed by Jared's doctor on Tuesday.

Bell's Palsy is facial paralysis stemming from either a virus or trauma to the nerve. It is permanent in only about 15% of the cases, otherwise it can take between 2 months to a year to completely heal. Literally, the right side of his face does not work. He can eat and drink with extreme difficulty, but he cannot blink and must tape his eye shut at night. He is on a couple medications that will hopefully help reduce the risk of permanency. Besides the frustration of only being able to use half your face, Jared is in good spirits. He is such a trooper.

Some moments are actually quite comical ....last night we were laying side by side in bed, him with his eye taped shut and and talking like he had just had a filling at the dental office, and me with my bitesplint in, my hand brace on, and laying on an ice-pack (to soothe my aching back)...

such young sexy newlyweds! We had a good laugh about it, though. With every unfortunate thing that happens in our lives, it is usually surrounded with one or two blessings to get us through.

God is good, facial paralysis and all.

:)

I can just hear it, "honey, you're tho thexthy!"  :)

We'll be praying for you both, and especially that the paralysis won't be permanent.  It sounds like you have a great outlook.  I'm thankful that you have each other, and that God is, indeed, good everyday!

I'll be praying! My brother-in-law Gary (on the soenen side) had bells palsy and didn't want to wait for the two months-year recovery, so he went to an acupuncturist and was over it in a few weeks. Just wanted to mention it in case you wanted to look into it. Apparently the acupuncture stimulates those nerves back to life. It might be worth looking into. I'd ask around about an acupuncturist-- and go with the name that keeps coming up. Jared is young so youth is greatly in his favor.

Me again! : ) I just told Uncle Dan and he said if it was him he would definitely do acupuncture. His words: "It's not voo doo-- it's Chinese medicine that we don't understand here in the west. They can do brain surgery using acupuncture instead of general anesthesia." So there you have it-- right from the mouth of another professional. :)
